The Defense Products Division of B F Goodrich Company of Akron, Ohio, has been awarded a cost-plus-fixed-free contract by the Manned Spacecraft Center. The contract, for $209,701, is to design, develop, and fabricate prototype pressure suits. Goodrich has been at work on contract-related materials since the 10th of January.

The contract calls for two separate pressure suit development programs, neither at this point specifically attached to any manned space flight program. There are to be four successively improved prototypes of an advanced full-pressure suit, and two prototypes of a partial-wear, quick-assembly full-pressure suit.

Related contracts are awarded to the Arrowhead Products Division of the Federal-Mogul Corporation of Los Amamitos, California, and to Protection, Inc, of Gardena, California.

Author: Project Gemini Chronology

The Project Gemini Chronology is drawn from multiple sources, but most heavily from NASA's Special Publication-4002, Project Gemini Technology and Operations: A Chronology, prepared by James M Grimwood and Barton C Hacker, with Peter J Vorzimmer. Other chronologies will be used where fitting, such as (particularly) those for Project Mercury and Project Apollo.
