Wednesday, May 16, 1962 – Retrorockets, Parachutes, and Interface Group

Representatives of the Gemini Project Office and of McDonnell are meeting to discuss retrograde rockets for the Gemini spacecraft. These rockets are currently to be provided by Thiokol.

In Houston a mechanical systems coordination meeting is considering the requirements of the drogue parachutes.

The Gemini Project Office and the Aerospace Corporation are establishing a Launch Vehicle-Spacecraft Interface Working Group. The group is to make certain that design and data about the mechanical, electrical, and structural details of the spacecraft and the booster are exchanged between the relevant contractors. It is not to make any policy decisions. The Gemini Project Office will review this group’s actions.

Author: Project Gemini Chronology

The Project Gemini Chronology is drawn from multiple sources, but most heavily from NASA's Special Publication-4002, Project Gemini Technology and Operations: A Chronology, prepared by James M Grimwood and Barton C Hacker, with Peter J Vorzimmer. Other chronologies will be used where fitting, such as (particularly) those for Project Mercury and Project Apollo.
